Fine lines and wrinkles are sadly not the only signs of ageing. As we age, our skin loses its elasticity, firmness and volume. This combination can leave us looking tired and depleted. Fillers are a great option to consider when we are looking to restore plumpness and help us to look more like the youthful person we still feel inside.
What are “fillers?”
Dermal fillers are a type of non injectable cosmetic procedure, where by a filler, which usually consists of hyaluronic acid, is injected into the skin to plump up wrinkles, smooth lines and restore volume in your face.
Why do people choose to have dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are often chosen by people who wish to restore a more youthful appearance and to enhance or soften their natural facial features. We aim to provide a natural appearance post procedure and HA is absorbed by the body safely over time.
What are fillers made from?
Most dermal fillers today consist of hyaluronic acid a naturally occurring polysaccharide that is present in skin and cartilage. As we age, we start to lose collagen. Collagen is an important substance that is found in tissues such as skin, connective tissue and bones. As this is lost, our skin can lose its elasticity, become loose and less firm. This is where fillers can be useful.
Whilst natural HA is found in your skin, the TEOSYAL RHA® system that we use here at Strand on the Green has been designed by the team of scientific experts in Switzerland at Teosyal. It contains a unique recoil technology which allows each strand of HA to move and recoil as the tissues naturally do, giving a more natural and less rigid effect.

How long do dermal fillers last for?
The effect lasts for about six months or longer. Successful results depend on health of the skin, skill of the health care provider, and type of filler used. Regardless of material (whether synthetic or organic) filler duration is highly dependent on amount of activity in the region where it is injected. Exercise and high intensity activities such as manual labour can stimulate blood flow and shorten the lifespan of fillers.
Will it be painful?
Sensitive areas such as the lips are treated under local anaesthetic to ensure that the procedure is as pain free as possible. Patients may feel a slight pinch in other areas where LA is not needed. Your practitioner will discuss all options with you at your consultation appointment.
How quickly will I see a difference?
Results are instant. There will be some redness and swelling which will subside within a few days of having the procedure. Results typically last from 6-12 months depending on the area and the amount of daily physical activity one engages in.
